Quite an unusual topic, we'll see. 'Worlds within' is the name of my favorite Korean drama. It is a story of love, hatred, sacrifice and then again reunited love. The actress Song Hyegou who is showcased in the drama plays a very independent character and she has amazing acting skills. Now back to the topic, the above mentioned story has no relation with the my further ramblings. The world of poetry in India is like an unexplored ocean. Doordarshan always has in store greatest surprises and I am a devoted viewer. Every time I switch on Doordarshan I get overwhelmed with what I see and learn. There are several programs on Doordarshan which showcase many Urdu poets and glimpses of their lives. The words in Urdu poetry are so well spun that one feels they are in awe and respect of each other and the listener definitely falls prey to the poetry’s grace and subtle texture. And while this happened I was transported to a parallel world as I was watching a biopic based on life of the Urdu poet 'Sauroor'. I am not so well versed with Urdu, but the passion in his poetry could be sensed. The voice speaking through his poetry, the voice of a peasant, of a farmer, of a woman, of a child deprived of food. His poetry made a big statement on the post Independence era. His dire need to connect by a voice with fellow Hindustanis was visible through his poetry. He expressed anger on communal riots, which were result of the partition. Wait! what do I hear? “Bas atta” that’s my mother's voice, she disapproving me of watching television. Priorities decide passion or, passion decides priorities?. I got extremely engrossed in the biopic and started relating with the passion of the poet. Watching the biopic was my priority now. On the other hand my mother's priority was to make me aware of the passing time, this is her motherly passion and profound care taking. But what excited me is that I am the sole bridge between the two worlds. My mother’s world where she scolds me because I know thats her passion and I like it sometimes. And the other is the poet’s world to which I was transported while watching the biopic and left me wanting for more.Thank you Doordarshan and thank you to my mother because without them I would never have found out about the constant struggle we face to understand our existence between the continuously intersecting and colliding worlds around and within us.
(I tried searching the poet's picture but Google only showed Himesh Reshammiya.)
nice...two worlds....always at battle.....wanting to do something....demands call elsewhere!
